Build What's Next.

The JCD Foundation helps pay tuition, room and board, books and related supplies for Fox Valley students heading into advanced manufacturing, health sciences, and the building trades. Tell us what you want to do. We'll help you get there.

DEC 1 – FEB 28 2027 application window

The pitch,
in 30 seconds.

You don't need a 4-year degree to build a serious career.

JCD is a Fox Valley foundation for students who want to make things, heal people, or build stuff that lasts. We help pay for the training: tuition, room and board, books and related supplies, up to half the cost.

No trick essay prompts. No scholarship committee that confuses polish for potential. Tell us what you want to do, what it costs to get there, and show us you're ready to do the work.

PICK YOUR LANE

Three Tracks.
Real Careers.

We fund training in the three sectors the Fox Valley actually runs on — and that need people right now.

01 Young person at CNC manufacturing equipment

Advanced
Manufacturing

CNC machinist · welding · machine tool tech · manufacturing tech

The backbone of the Fox Valley. Build, weld, program, and run the machines that run the world. John Dunham's own industry — now yours.

02 Young medical professional in scrubs

Health
Sciences

nursing · diagnostic imaging · MRI · medical assistant · surgical tech · radiation therapy

Training into the jobs every Fox Valley hospital is actively hiring for. Patient-facing, tech-forward, never boring.

03 Young person on a construction site with tool belt

Building
Trades

carpentry · electrical · plumbing · HVAC · framing · masonry

The trades aren't the fallback. They're the move. Real skills, good wages, and the satisfaction of building something that's still standing in 80 years.

Here's what
we fund.

03

WHY JCD

This isn't charity.
It's a legacy.

John C. Dunham grew up in Aurora and graduated from West Aurora High School in 1928. He built Equipto, his family's company, into a steel shelving business known well beyond the Fox Valley. He relied on the trades every day, and his wife was a nurse — that's where our three career paths come from.

JCD carries his name forward — the belief that the next generation of makers, healers, and builders deserves a real shot at work that matters.

We're built for students from East Aurora to Geneva, from Batavia to Oswego who want a career they can build with their hands, their skills, and their training.

Named for a Fox Valley manufacturer. Run by Fox Valley people. Built for you.

The real
questions.

Asked honestly.
Answered the same way. ↓
Do I need a 4.0?
No. There's no GPA cutoff and no test score. What we look for is your plan, what you're already doing — school, activities, a job — and whether you'll show up and do the work. Keep doing yours in class, too: the habits that get you through school are the same ones every employer we talk to asks for.
Is there an essay?
Not really. There's one short answer at the end — 300 words or less — and it asks one thing: what do you want to pursue? That's it. No "describe a challenge you overcame." We're not asking you to prove you've had it hard. Tell us what you want to do and why. Three good sentences beat three good paragraphs.
What does it actually cost me?
Nothing to apply. No fees, no hidden cost, no catch. If you're funded, JCD covers up to 50% of your tuition, room and board, and related educational expenses, paid directly to your school.
What if I want to go to a 4-year school later?
Totally fine. Many of these paths include transferable college credit, and plenty of people go back for a bachelor's later, often with an employer's help. Starting in the trades isn't closing a door. It's opening a different one.
How long does the application take?
About 30 minutes of typing, plus a few things you'll need to gather: a cost estimate from your school, two letters of recommendation, and a transcript your high school emails to us. It saves on your device as you go, so you can come back to it.
I'm already in a program. Can I still apply?
Yes. If you're already enrolled — say, in a nursing or welding program — you can apply. So can gap-year and part-time students. Just tell us where you are and what's left.
When will I hear back?
Applications run December 1, 2026 through February 28, 2027. Everyone who applies hears back by March 31. If you're mid-program and at risk of having to stop, say so in your application.
Who decides?
A review committee of volunteers with real experience in advanced manufacturing, health care, the building trades and education reads every application.
